Summary
- No account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking. Kiyume doesn’t collect personal data, and doesn’t share any with third parties.
- What you read stays on your device — or in your own iCloud, if you turn on sync. Kiyume has no server that holds your library.
- When you read from a source, your device connects directly to the site behind it, as a browser would. I’m not in the middle.
- The only personal data I ever receive is what you choose to send me, by email or through the forms on this site.
Who I am
Kiyume is made and published by Amarildo Preci, an independent developer based in Italy (“I”, “me”). I’m responsible for this policy and for the personal data described in it. You can reach me at support@kiyume.app.
This policy covers the Kiyume app for iPhone and iPad and the website at kiyume.app.
What stays on your device
To work, Kiyume keeps data on your device only. I never receive it:
- your library, lists, bookmarks, reading progress and history;
- your reading statistics, streak and Manga DNA, calculated on your device from what you read;
- your settings and content preferences;
- downloaded chapters, and a temporary cache of covers and pages;
- the sources and repositories you installed, and the keys you chose to trust;
- sign-ins for your own server, AniList or MyAnimeList, stored in the iPhone’s Keychain on this device only.
Deleting Kiyume deletes all of this from your device. Incognito mode keeps reading out of your history and progress altogether.
iCloud sync and backups
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on. When it’s on, your library, lists, progress, history and reading preferences are stored in the private database of your iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit. That database belongs to you and counts against your iCloud storage; I can’t read it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is described in Apple’s privacy policy.
Downloaded chapters, installed sources, trusted keys and sign-ins are never synced.
Backup files are created only when you ask, and saved wherever you choose. They contain your library, lists, progress, history and tracking links — no passwords or sign-ins.
Sources and your own server
When you browse or read from a source, your device connects directly to the websites that source declares. Like any website you visit, those sites receive your IP address and the pages you request, and they handle that under their own privacy policies. I don’t operate them and don’t receive any of that information.
Sources run inside strict limits: they never see your library, history, other sources, passwords or anything identifying your device. Repositories are contacted only to show their catalogues and check for updates.
If you connect your own server, Kiyume talks only to the address you enter. Your sign-in is stored in your Keychain and sent only to that server.
AniList and MyAnimeList
Tracking is optional. If you connect AniList or MyAnimeList, you sign in on the service’s own page and Kiyume keeps the resulting access token in your Keychain, on this device only. From then on, Kiyume sends the services the progress you make in the series you linked, and reads your list entries for those series. Nothing is sent while incognito mode is on.
Those services handle your data under their own policies: AniList and MyAnimeList. You can disconnect at any time, which removes the token and the links from your device.
Notifications and Face ID
New-chapter notifications are created on your device. Kiyume checks your library’s sources in the background, as scheduled by iOS; no notification server is involved.
Face ID and Touch ID are handled entirely by iOS. Kiyume only learns whether unlocking succeeded, and never receives biometric data.
When you contact me
If you write to me, or send a report or feature request, I receive what you send: your email address, your message and anything the app added to it. Messages written from the app include your Kiyume version, your iOS version and your device model; reports about a source also include the results of an automatic check. You see all of it in your mail app before you send.
The support and feature request forms on this site send me what you type in them — your email address, your message and the optional details you add — as an email to support@kiyume.app, through my hosting provider’s mail server. Nothing else is attached to it.
I use this only to answer you and to fix what you reported, and keep it only as long as needed for that, then delete it. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in providing support, or your request.
The App Store and TestFlight
Kiyume is distributed by Apple. Apple may share with me aggregated, non-identifying statistics and crash reports, but only if you’ve agreed to share them with app developers in your device settings. Purchases and downloads are handled by Apple under its own policy.
During the beta, Kiyume is distributed through TestFlight. Apple shares with me the feedback, screenshots and crash reports you choose to send from TestFlight, together with your device model and iOS version, and, if you were invited by email, your name and email address. I use them only to improve Kiyume. TestFlight is covered by Apple’s TestFlight terms and privacy policy.
This website
kiyume.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party services. Fonts and images are served from Kiyume’s own domain. The hosting provider, Hostinger (Hostinger International Ltd.), processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the site and keep it secure, and keeps it only briefly in server logs.
When you send a form, a hashed (not readable) form of your IP address is kept on the server for up to an hour, only to limit how many messages can be sent in a short time and keep spam out. It’s then deleted.
Children
Kiyume doesn’t collect personal data from anyone, including children. Explicit content is hidden unless you turn it on, and Kiyume can be locked with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the EU General Data Protection Regulation — you have the right to access, correct or delete the personal data I hold about you, to object to or restrict how I use it, and to receive a copy of it. In practice, the only data I might hold is your correspondence with me: write to support@kiyume.app and I’ll act on your request.
You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Changes to this policy
If Kiyume changes in a way that affects your privacy — for example when a new feature connects to Kiyume’s servers — I’ll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, I’ll also let you know in the app.
